You must register to vote in Kentucky at least 29 days prior to an
election in order to be eligible to vote in that election. The same
time restraint applies for registering a name or address change with
your County Clerk's office. Kentucky requires a political party
designation at time of registration. Changes in party designation must
be made by December 31st of the year preceding a primary election. Difficulty: Easy Time Required: 5-15 Minutes Here's How:- Meet the Criteria to Register
– You must be 18 years old on or before election day, a U.S. citizen,
and a resident of the state in order to register to vote in Kentucky.
- Obtain a Voter Registration Card – You can print an application online or pick it up at your County Clerk's office.
- Complete the Voter Registration Card – Fill out all
of the required fields using blue or black ink. Do not fill out the
section that is labeled "For Clerk Use Only." Filling out and
submitting this card will register you to vote for the first time,
change your political party designation, and update your registered
name and address.
- Choose a Political Party Designation – Choose
whether you want to be listed as a republican, democrat, or "other." If
you choose "other," you will need to write in the name of your party.
- Sign and Date Voter Registration Card – If an "X"
appears to the left of the signature line, you are required to also
have two signatures in the "witnessed by" sections.
- Return Voter Registration Card – You'll need to either mail or turn your voter registration card in to your County Clerk's office:

- Receive Registration Confirmation – Your County
Clerk will send you a voter registration card as receipt of
confirmation. This card will also provide you with your voting precinct
information.
Tips:- If you're cutting it close
to the deadline, opt for a trip to the County Clerk's office rather
than mailing in your application. This will ensure your ability to vote
as well as make sure you have all of the information you need.
- Make
sure to designate the party you're most likely to vote for as your
political party designation. You will only be able to vote in primary
elections for that party.
- You will need to show an ID with your
picture and registered name address in order to be able to vote. Make
sure to take care of any name and address inconsistencies on your ID
and voter registration at least a month before an election in order to
avoid voting problems.
